Election of the Lady Mayor

29th September 2025

The bells rang out on Monday to proclaim the first Lady Mayor of London, Dame Sue Langley DBE. Born and brought up in the East End of London, Sue's story has a hint of a fairy tale and is well worth reading one of her many online references. As she said in her speech, that little girl who watched the Lord Mayor's Show from her Grandad's shoulders never dreamed that one day she would be making her way by Rolls Royce as Lady Mayor Elect to the Mansion House.

NB She is not the first lady to become Mayor; she is the first to become Lady Mayor.

After the election, which ran somewhat over, we enjoyed lunch at Stationers' Hall.
