Company Golf Day

26th June 2025

Words by PM Paul Taberer

The Tobacco Pipe Makers and Tobacco Blenders Annual Golf Day Thursday, June 26, 2025

This year’s annual livery golf day was once again held at the wonderful club Tandridge - on a rather windy but dry summer’s day. Tandridge, as always, was in magnificent condition with lightning-fast greens which proved somewhat of a challenge!

We had 14 golfers (6 members from the Company and 8 guests), and we shared the day with the Old Davorians (Dover College) who had 10 players. Past Master Michael Walter happens to be an OD.

The Master and Consort joined us for lunch, as did another 5 Liverymen/guests.

The Master enjoyed the day thoroughly, mingling with participants and presenting the prizes.

Following the early morning registration, players, in groups of 4, set off for 4 hours of golf – returning to the clubhouse to join non-playing members for a well-deserved drink before entering the dining room for the signature Tandridge carvery lunch – outstanding, followed by a choice of puddings and of course the famous Tandridge Pudding!

Amongst those joining for lunch were Past Master Michael Walter and Hilary, Herchel Jordan, and Liveryman Conrad Blakey and Jayne Gardner.

The Master gave a warm welcome speech to all before handing out the prizes as follows:

The Charles Rich Trophy: Past Master Ian Panto – huge congratulations!
1st: Hon Freeman: Sharon Taberer.
2nd: Guest: Tom Golding (son of Past Master Andrew Golding).
3rd: Guest: Tom Keevil, Sharon Taberer.
Best 4-ball (2 to count): Cynthia Rich, Sharon Taberer, Charleen Hollington, Tom Golding.

Closest to the pin: Past Master Paul Taberer.

The range of prizes included very kind donations from:

MARK JOHNSON-HILL: CHATEAU MEAUME WINE (Reserve 2022 x 12)

P M NIGEL RICH: MIRABEAU ROSE

NIKESH MADHVANI: KAKIRA GIN, RUM, VODKA
