Theobalds Farmhouse Garden

3rd June 2025

Crews Hill

Carolyn and I joined other Consorts and Liverymen on a City Consorts visit to Theobalds Farmhouse Gardens, at Crews Hill, Hertfordshire, a short hop around the M25 from us.

Alison Green, a Liveryman of the Wax Chandlers and the Gardeners, has built up the garden over 25 years, from scratch, in the grounds of a mid-17th century farmhouse.

The garden is split up into 11 different rooms, each with a different character and set of plants and provides a wonderful example of what can be created in a garden with time and patience.

After an initial cup of tea and a talk about the garden, we had a guided tour by Alison, before heading back to the garden buildings for a sandwich lunch.

The weather was a bit cool, but the rain held off until we were back in the garden buildings, so we were extremely fortunate.

It was a lovely trip, particularly as relinquishing the Mastership should give us some time to reorganise our own garden and we need some ideas!

Well worth a visit - I am sure there will be more opportunties to go in the future
