Master's Reception

28th May 2025

HMS Wellington

We always used to enjoy the Autumn Court and Dinners on the Wellington, with lovely dinners on the quarter deck looking over the river on a balmy September evening.

As we had not been on the ship for some years, it seemed a nice idea to have our final company event, the Master's Reception, on the HMS Wellington, with drinks and canapes on the quarterdeck. To add to the enjoyment, we also arranged for a guided tour of the ship.

53 members of the Company and their guests boarded the ship, and after an initial drink, joined one of two tours given by Simon Quail, a former Merchant mariner and Headmaster. He was very enthusiastic in his explanation of the history of the ship, and we all enjoyed being in the Wheelhouse, commanding the ship whilst in charge of a virtual convoy in the North Atlantic. The tour also included a visit to the Court room, once the engine room of the ship.

We were also extraordinarily lucky with the weather - no rain and some sunshine made it a lovely evening for everybody.

Carolyn and I thoroughly enjoyed our last company outing as Master and Consort and we were grateful for the opportunity to thank eveyrbody for their support over the year.
