Casanova - a Masked Dinner

1st May 2025

Century Club

At an art exhibition at the Painter-Stainers, earlier this year, we met the artist Lynne Russell and Carolyn had an in-depth discussion about art techniques. As a result, we were invited to join an evening at the Century Club, where Lynne exhibited her recent collection of Venetian Masked Ball themed paintings.

To complement the paintings, there was a very nice dinner, accompanied by a talk by the auther Ian Kelly, author of a biography of Giacomo Casanova. Casanova was born in Venice, and of course is chiefly known for his love life. However, in reality he was far more than this, being a mathematician, traveller and scientist. He was also in effect the first person to write an autobiography, which is why so much is known about his lovers.

We were joined by the Immediate Past Master and Consort of the Fletchers, Tim and Clare Sanders-Hewett for a very amusing dinner. Other Liverymen were there including our own Neil Jones.

Most of us wore masks!
