Pewterers Dinner for the Lord Mayor

24th April 2025

Pewterers hall

Carolyn and I were invited by the Master Pewterer, Mrs Isabel Martinson, to their Lord Mayor's Dinner at Pewterers' Hall. We enjoyed a fine Spring menu of Asparagus, Spring Lamb, Rhubarb Fool and Ham Hock and Cheese Croquette, and we relished the fine Sauterne that was served with Dessert!

The Lord Mayor was represented by our own Alderman Sir Andrew Parmley, who as usual gave a very amusing after dinner speech, which went down very well.

Also of note at the dinner was the presentation to the company of a new Loving Cup, crafted to a modern designed by a recognised Pewter artist and given by one of the Liverymen of the Company. Fortunately, the Pewterers' Hall has plenty of space to show off examples of the Pewterer's art, from the very old to the ultra modern.

Having space for company treasures and works of art is one of the few reasons it would be nice to have our own hall. Unfortunately our collections are spread around the country or sit in the basement of Stationers Hall, so commissioning new works of art is difficult for us!
