Inter Livery Pancake Races

4th March 2025

Guildhall Yard

Unlike some previous years, there was no chance that the Inter Livery Pancake Races were going to be cancelled - it was a fine, sunny and warm spring day, so no problems with Health & Safety.

The Pipe Makers team consisted of myself, Consort Carolyn, Renter Warden Jacqueline and IPM Elise, who was entered into the fancy dress competition. She came with a very large pipe, which she had to carry as well as the very large frying pan that were used this year. Rather a handful to race with!

After most of the entrants and onlooks had tried a pancake or two before the racing, (probably not good for speed), we launched into the main events at midday.

Despite losing my chef's hat, I came second in my heat, which seamed as good a position as any - no further heats required! Everyone else was honourably placed but unfortunately no prizes this year, despite cheers from our supporters (Court Assistant Rae Maile, Liveryman Adam Phillips, Simon Burrows and others)! Elise did however get to record an interview with Reuters....

The fancy dress prize went to Sir Knit-a-lot, for the Woolmen, a unanimous winner as far as the Lord Mayor and Sheriffs were concerned.

Another eccentric day in the life of the city!
