Veterans' Garden Launch

18th February 2025

Guildhall Yard

The Veterans’ Garden is an established part of the Lord Mayor’s Big Curry Lunch, designed and installed by the Gardeners’ Livery Company, with the support of the Guild of Young Freemen. Each year, the Garden reflects a different theme or subject relating to veterans’ lives. For 2025, the theme is The Battle of Britain, and has been designed by professional garden designer, Gianna Utilini, and includes a mockup of an Anderson bomb shelter, fire blacked trees and a Model spitfire and Hurricane. The garden will stay in place until after the Big Curry Lunch on 10th April.

The launch of the garden was well attended by Masters and Clerks, Alderman Vincent Keaveny (as the Lord Mayor was away), the Lady Mayoress and the Sheriffs. Fortunately (for once) the weather was sunny but the cup of coffee on arrival was most welcome in keeping out the cold! The fur on my gown also helped!

Also on sale were jars of Mr Todiwala's Lord Mayor's Big Curry Sauce, so I purchased one and will let everyone know what it tastes like in due course!
