Lunch with the Environmental Cleaners
11th February 2025Butchers Hall
The Master Environmental Cleaner very much enjoyed our Company snuff when she tried it at the Plaisterers Dinner in January. She therefore asked Sandra and I if our Company would provide some snuff and mulls to hand around after their Court and Livery Lunch at the Butchers Hall for others in her company to try.
We were happy to be invited along to a very nice lunch at the Butchers Hall, and I gave a lighthearted speech about some of the odd histories of the tobacco world and our company, introducing the subject of snuff to the assembled company.
Beforehand, I therefore did some research and with the help our Renter Warden/Archivist, Jacqueline Burrows, I came up with the attached speech, which might be of interest to members of the company.
The snuff was successfully passed around and, as usual, most guests who tried it were very surprised to enjoy the sensation!
Other speakers included the Master herself (being her last official event) and Keith Bottomley, Deputy and Master Patternmaker.
Thank you to the Master and Company of Environmental Cleaners for a most entertaining lunch!
