Opera Scenes
28th November 2024Guildhall School of Music & Drama
We went to the Autumn Opera Scenes production at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, to see a variety a scenes from operas performed by a group of the Guildhall School students. In particular, our Music scholar Julia Solomon was performing in several of the pieces.
The programme included scenes from the following operas:
Dove's The Adventures of Pinocchio, with Julia playing Pinocchio
Mozart's La Clemenza di Tito, with Julia playing Annio
Donizetti's L'elisir d'amore
Britten's Albert Herring, with Julia playing Florence Pike
Mozart's Cosi fan tutte
Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel, with Julia playing Hansel
Gounod's Romeo & Juliette
Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, with Julia playing Anna.
All the scenes were played within the same set, with much of the scenery and playing done as though the actors were playing in a contemporary office!
All the students played a very wide range of characters, with astonishingly quick changes between scenes, illustrating how well they knew the individual pieces and could switch at will between the scenes.
The singing was fantastic and well worth the trip.
It shows again how much our Benevolent Fund Music scholarships support individual talent and provide a platform for the students to carve out their futures in the musical world!
