Curious Case of Benjamin Button
20th November 2024Ambassadors Theatre
We enjoyed a fabulous Pipe Makers Livery Theatre outing to see the musical "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button", at the Ambassadors Theatre. Over 60 Company members and their guests were in attendance, courtesy of Third Warden Mallory Factor, who is one of the producers.
The musical is based on a short story by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and although it has the same concept at its heart, the theatre production is quite different from the film of the same name. Exploring the themes of time and aging, the story is now set in a Cornish fishing village, with most of the music being "sea shanty" style, with musical instruments being played live on stage, fitting in wonderfully with dancing and acting.
It is a quite extraordinary and marvellous production, with the cast swapping musical instruments between themselves, playing foot stomping songs with them whilst dancing (with a cello for example!). Not a sheet of music is to be seen anywhere!
The cast quite deservedly earned themselves a standing ovation at the end of the performance.
A fantastic evening all around - thank you Mallory!
