Lord Mayor's Address

20th November 2024

Mansion House

Whilst Carolyn attended the Champagen Tea for the new Lady Mayoress in the Guildhall, Masters and Clerks went to the Mansion House to hear the new Lord Mayor lay out his main aims for the year.

His main theme for the year is "Growth unleashed", trying to get the city firing on all cylinders, with or without regulatory form in place.

In addition he is setting up various community networks, based around different ethnic and interest based groups, to try and bring in as much talent into the city as possible.

Of particular interest to myself is his wish to support the Wentworth-Woodhouse restoration project up in South Yorkshire, which is very close to where my company was based outside Rotherham. This is one of the biggest stately homes in the country with a front facade over 600ft wide, and has drifted into disrepair because of the impact of coal being mined very close to the building! The restoration Trust has been masterminded by Dame Julie Kenny, a Past Master of the Cutlers in Hallamshire, amd their aim is to use the project as a driver for providing local communities with skills and work for the future.

We were also addressed by the new Lady Mayoress in her Army uniform, as she is keen to support the militaary units based in London.

We then had an opportunity to meet the Lord Mayor at a reception, along with other Livery Masters.
