Help Musicians
20th November 2024St Pauls
On a very cold but bright November morning, the Musicians Livery held their Help Musicians service at St Paul's cathedral.
As is the norm on these occasions, our Clerk Sandra and I wore our full gowns and badges of office and processed to our seats in the North Transept, whilst Carolyn, Immediate Past Master Elise and Past Master Charles Miller took their seats in the South Transept.
We were treated to some fine choral singing, a piano piece by Chopin played by one of the young Musicians Livery Members and various other pieces. Unfortunately as always, the acoustics in the Cathedral are not very good, so the pieces do not come over as well as they might have done.
Our group of Masters and Clerks also found ourselves sitting facing bright sunlight streaming through the upper windows of the Cathedral and we were forced to close our eyes to avoid the brightness, particularly during the sermon. I am sure of course that nobody actually went to sleep...
After disrobing, the five of us had a very convivial dinner nearby out of the cold, before Carolyn and I went on to our next events!
