    Service of Thanksgiving

  • Service of Thanksgiving St Mary Le Bow

Service of Thanksgiving

4th November 2024

St Mary Le Bow

One of the final events of the Lord Mayor's year is a Service of Thanksgiving for his year of service. Normally held at St Stephen Walbrook, next to the Mansion House, this year it was held at St Mary-le-Bow on Cheapside, as St Stephen's is being renovated and therefore was unavailable.

Having finished the Garden of Remembrance Service earlier in the day, most Masters, Prime Wardens and Upper Bailiff had lunch at the Cutlers Hall before reassembling at St Mary's at 5.00pm for Evensong.

It is a wonderful church for such an event, particularly as there was present a small but very powerful choir, which accompanied by trumpets, led the congregation is some very lusty singing! Frankly, the acoustics work much better in a church the size of St Mary-le-Bow than they do in St Paul's, which makes it so much easier for the congregation to join in!

After a reading by the Lord Mayor, a sermon by his Chaplain and final prayers, the service was followed by refreshments in the church. A very welcome end to a long but enjoyable day!
