Livery Climate Action Group Conference

22nd October 2024

Merchant Taylors Hall

Andrew Pinto and I spent a most interesting day at the Livery Climate Action Group (LCAG) 2024 annual conference. Hosted by Alderman Alison Gowman, who is the lead for the City on Climate change and founder of LCAG, the keynote speakers were the Lord Mayor, Michael Mainelli and Professor Thomas Waite, UK Deputy Chief Medical Officer

The agenda included sessions on Water, Energy, Bio-Diversity, Skills, Resilience and the Impact of Climate Change on health. Some very sobering information and graphics were presented: for example, Prof Waite, who is an epidemiologist by training, talked about the excess deaths that happened in London due to the heat wave in mid-2022, when temperatures went up to 40 degrees C in the centre of London.

More uplifting were the stands from various schools showing off their admirable efforts to help reduce the impact of climate change. In particular, Walsall Academy gave a wonderful presentation on all their efforts in greening their school environment, including reducing energy usage, installaing solar panels and growing plants to increase bio-diversity.

We came away with plenty to think about and we will relook at our company Climate Action Plan to see if we can improve it!
