Freedom of the City ceremony

16th October 2024

Guidhall

The Madhvani family were kind enough to invite me to Eshan Madhvani’s Freedom of the City ceremony, in my position as Master of the Tobacco Pipe Makers Livery, followed by a reception at Goldsmith’s Hall.

Together with a good number of family and friends, some other members of the company were there to enjoy the celebrations, including Past Masters Elise Rasmussen and Fiona Adler, together with Third Warden Mallory Factor and Clerk Sandra.

As always the Freedom of the City ceremony includes a viewing of memorabilia associated with previous well known people who have received their Freedom of the City and this occasion was no different, with various signatures on show. As was said by the Chamberlain, the Guildhall has the best collection of signatures in the world!

After a tour of the Guildhall, we made our way to the Goldsmiths’ Hall, for a most enjoyable reception, which included a fine speech by Eshan.

Unlike some other guests already dressed in white tie, ready for our Annual Banquet later that evening, I unfortunately had to leave early to go and get changed and make sure everything was in order for the Banquet. A shame but duty calls!

A big thank you for a wonderful day’s hospitality to Nikesh, Diviya, Eshan and Natalya Madhvani. We look forward to Eshan becoming a full Liveryman at the January Court.
