Common Hall
30th September 2024Guildhall
After breakfast kindly provided at the Guildhall by Cook & Butler, we went to the Crypts to robe before processing to St Lawrence Jewry for Divine Service before The Election of the Lord Mayor. Hymns were enthusiastically sung in the recently restored church, before we processed back to the Guildhall.
As is usual at Common Hall, the Masters, Prime Wardens and Upper Bailiff processed into the main hall for the Election vote, which resulted in Alderman Alastair King being elected Lord Mayor for the ensuing year. No surprises!
After an acceptance speech and tributes to the current mayor, together with the other speeches, we were finally released for lunch, some 30 minutes later than scheduled! A rapid exodus from the Guildhall followed, with most people heading off for lunch at one of the Livery Halls, in my case to Staationers Hall.
There IPM Elise Rasmussen and I were seated at a table with members of the Glass Sellers and Distillers Companies, enjoying a fine lunch as always at Stationers.
It is a long but important day in the City Calendar and a great privilige to be involved with the City Election processes, however unique!
