Magical Taxi tour Big Breakfast

20th September 2024

Canary Wharf

After a very enjoyable Autumn Court dinner and a night in a City Livery Club cabin, it was a shame to have to get up for a 5.30 DLR train ride from Bank to Herons Quay. However, it was for the extremely good cause of the Magical Taxi Tour trip "Big Breakfast" send off, for their Disneyland Paris trip.

Organised by The Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, nearly 100 taxis take chronically children and their families to Paris for a weekend escape. This is a delightful and valuable effort by the Hackney Carriage Drivers to help these families, and our company Benevolent Fund has been happy to sponsor one of these cabs for some years.

Along with representatives of other sponsoring companies, it was therefore a pleasure to be invited along for the send off from Canary Wharf.

After being sat down on a table with other Livery company members, we were treated to a marvellous cooked breakfast, before speeches by the Master Hackney Carriage Driver Dan Heath and Sheriffs Dame Susan Langley and Bronek Masojada. Dan introduced all the organisations who were directly helping the event happen, including the City of London Police, the Gendarmerie National from France, the ambulance and breakdown escorts and many others who have contributed to making this event happen.

We then went outside to watch the convoy leave with a great deal of noise from the cab horns, but much delight from the children.

It clearly takes a lot of effort to get nearly 100 taxis across to France safely and the Hackney Carriage Drivers are to be congratulated as always for their huge efforts!
