St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group Reception

16th September 2024

Guidlhall Crypts

The St John of Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group held a reception in the Guildhall Crypts to publicise their drive to raise £6m to help reestablish eye care in the Gaza strip, the West Bank and Jerusalem after all the recent terrible events in that part of the world. Part of the Order of St John, the Jerusalem Eye Hospital Group has been the main provider of eye care (free) in these territories for over 140 years, regardless of religion or ethinicity.

The City of London is a longtime supporter of the Order of St John, and the event was attended by many senior people from the City and other Livery Masters.

We were addressed by senior members of the Eye group, including the CEO Dr Ahmed Ma'ali, by video from the Middle East. They explained that they have restarted services in Gaza, despite the terrible situation there, and are desperate to raise money to be able to do more.

They are intending to hold a charity dinner in the New Year with details to follow in due course.

Livery members interested in finding out more about supporting the organisation should go to helping should go to www.stjohneyehospital.org
