Past Masters Dinner

5th September 2024

In and Out Club

The Past Masters annual dinner was held at the In and Out Club as usual, with an enjoyable time had by all ten of us who attended.

Unfortunately, some PMs could not join us because of Covid, but the saddest news of all was that our Senior Past Master Rolf Christophersen passed away a few days before the event.

We therefore toasted his memory and continued with Rolf’s traditional Norwegian toast of “Takk for maten” – thank you for the food! This was very appropriate given the lovely food and wine provided by the In and Out club. Hopefully this toast will continue to be used on future occasions to remind us of his very long and wonderful association with the company.

As is also customary, PM Charles Miller provided a surprise tobacco artefact to show the assembled PMs, in this case a Meerschaum for smoking cheroots. The bowl was a lady’s head and arm, taking a pinch of snuff. A highly unusual and fascinating article linking 3 forms of tobacco in one – cheroots, pipe smoking and snuff! Charles tested it out using suitable sized De Olifant cigars which proved that it still worked perfectly well!
