    Sheriffs' and Recorder's Fund AGM

  • Sheriffs' and Recorder's Fund AGM

Sheriffs' and Recorder's Fund AGM

2nd July 2024

Our Clerk Sandra and I attended the Annual General Meeting of the Sheriffs' and Recorder's Fund, held in no 1 Court at the Old Bailey, followed by a reception. The Fund makes grants to ex-prisoners to try and help their transition to normal life on release from prison.

The S&R Fund is one of the charities that our Benevolent fund supports, and is a significant donor to this worthy cause. The S&R Fund income has increased this year which has allowed the number of prisoners being helped to also increase to over 1200.

After the normal AGM agenda, including presentation of accounts, re-election of officers etc, there was a Q&A session with the head of one of the charities that the fund supports, together with an ex-prisoner who is now an ambassador for the charity. Very revealing of some of the things that happen in our overstretched prison and probation services!

It is also clear that relatively small amounts of money to each prisoner are a big help in setting them on their feet again!

There was also a talk by Mr. Martin Jones CBE, His Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Probation, about some of the issues of the Probation service.
