Old Bailey Choir concert at St Lawrence Jewry

  • Old Bailey Choir concert at St Lawrence Jewry

Old Bailey Choir concert at St Lawrence Jewry

27th June 2024

After the Trade Lunch at Lord's, I went to the newly refurbished St Lawrence Jewry for an Evening of Orchestral and Choral Music, given by The Old Bailey Choir and Orchestra. The choir and orchestra are an amateur group whose day jobs are mostly in the legal profession. They were aided by Soprano Solost Lucy Mitten, who is currently studying Music and English at Royal Holloway.

The Concert was in aid of the Sheriffs' and Recorder's Fund, and the Church was nearly full.

They gave very fine performances of Bach's Double Violin Concerto, Faure's Cantique de Jean Racine, Elgar's Chanson de Matin and John Rutter's Requiem, made all the better because of the beautiful church setting. The evening sun lights up the church interior and stained glass windows and makes a very appropriate setting for such a concert.
