Masters and Clerks Lunch at Drapers Hall

Masters and Clerks Lunch at Drapers Hall

13th June 2024

I was fortunate to attend the Master's and Clerk's lunch at Drapers Hall on June 13th, no longer quite the newest Livery Master in the City, as I sat opposite the Master Mason who had just been installed a couple of days before! It did however allow me to meet more of the Livery masters who I had not yet come across, so my circle is getting wider.

This hall is always a favourite of ours as we know from our experience of Jaunary dinners, and as usual the food was very enjoyable.

It also turned out to be a lunch of many extraordinary coincidences. I was fortunate enough to be seated next to Patrick Beddows TD, who will become Master Draper in July next year, who it turned out knows the estate next to us at home in Hertfordshire very well, including our horse yard. He also originates from my home territory in Staffordshire/Shropshire. More extraordinary still, Master Draper Tom Harris is a cousin of the family who owned my parents house before they did in a small village in Shropshire and therefore knew the house I grew up in very well!

Not connections I expected at a City of London lunch!
