    Pattenmakers’ Evensong

Pattenmakers’ Evensong

23rd November 2023

St Margaret Pattens

Thanksgiving is a very special day for Americans. Some say it is more important than Christmas. The emphasis is on family and food. We celebrate what we have and remember our Blessings. One of the traditions in fact is to go around the table and tell everyone what we are thankful for. I am certainly thankful to be the Master of our Company and to everyone who supports me in this endeavour, especially Courtney and William. Being thankful was more palatable this year when the Master Pattenmaker, Commodore Patrick Tyrrell OBE, invited me to Evensong on Thanksgiving evening. Having enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving lunch at Corner Cottage with Patrick, Courtney, William and Patrick’s wife Debbie plus special friends, it seemed poignant to head to The Guild Church of St Margaret Pattens to give thanks. The Pattenmakers’ Company share this special evensong with the Basketmakers’ Company and both have display cases in the entrance where you can view their treasures. The Pattenmakers are in fact the only Company with a Church named after them. While going to church on Thanksgiving is not traditional, it might be something to consider…. especially at St Margaret Pattens.
