RBL Garden of Remembrance
6th November 2023There are some sombre moments that Masters of Livery Companies experience. Certainly Immediate Past Master Paul Taberer knows this more than most, having been in office when our beloved Her Majesty The Queen passed away. However, I think all the Masters will agree that the Garden of Remembrance Service where each Livery Master places a cross bearing the name of their Company or Guild into the cold dark ground in honour and recognition of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice is sombre and moving. The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress lead the way and are joined by their Sheriffs and Consorts. The Lord Mayor addresses us all before placing his cross. It is these quiet moments when one by one the Great Twelve and the Modern Livery Companies and Guilds unite and serve as one important entity within the City of London. Collectively we are there to pay our respects to our veterans - a reminder that our Freedom comes at a price many before us paid.
