Reception for the Coroners’ Courts Support Service

28th September 2023

The Old Bailey

Support comes in a multitude of forms and is needed for a variety of reasons. Let’s face it, we all need a bit of support at various times. The question is do we have a system in place - our own village that is there for us when we truly need them?

This need is compounded when you have lost a loved one. Someone close to you who passed away in circumstances that require a visit to the Coroner’s Court. Dread, fear, grief, bewilderment, these are just some of the emotions a visit to the Coroner’s Court evokes. Can you imagine what it would be like to have that experience all by yourself?

One would assume that there is a service that would offer support, security, stability during this exceptionally difficult time. They would be correct - except it is a charitable organisation not a certainty. Donations are needed to provide this emotional support. At the Old Bailey, we heard from the Founder of the Charity, who started this charity when her best friend could barely get a tissue during her difficult experience let alone a glass of water. We learned from people who used the service just how essential it is. No one can underestimate how valuable it is to have someone explain the process, the experience, the people involved and offer support.
