Company Golf Day
22nd June 2023Tandridge
The sun shined on 15 golfers yesterday at the annual Livery Golf Day at Tandridge, Past Master Derek Harris and Liveryman Conrad Blakey’s home course. The Immediate Past Master, Paul Taberer provided a warm welcome to the five guests and ten members of the company, in his first year as organizer, having taken over from Past Master Derek Harris.
After the scores were tallied and before lunch, golfers basked in the sunshine on the terrace with drinks and cigars.
The Members were all vying for The Charles Rich Trophy, which was donated by Past Master Nigel Rich in memory of his Father, who was a Past Master and Founding Member of our Modern Livery Company. Nigel also generously donated some magnums and bottles of Rose from his daughter’s vineyard in France. This prize made me want to take up golf and figure out how to win! On this occasion I was a winner as Past Master Nigel Rich himself won 3rd place. The prize was in fact a magnum of Rose and a shirt, which along with some caps, were donated by 'Hail & Cotton'. Nigel very kindly gave me the Rose. In a proud Mother moment, Will won the longest drive!! No special woman golfers prize was presented this year; but, one wasn’t necessary as Honorary Freeman Sharon Taberer majestically swung into 2nd place. The full list of winners were:
The Charles Rich Trophy to Liveryman David Walter.
1st Chris Brown
2nd Honorary Freeman Sharon Taberer
3rd Past Master Nigel Rich.
Longest Drive Freeman Will Rasmussen
Closest to pin Richard Hollington.
Special thanks to Immediate Past Master Paul Taberer, who did a brilliant job organizing and hosting everyone.
The lunch was magnificent! The carvery makes you want to fast days beforehand; so, you can fully enjoy it. After sampling everything, including the divine desserts, you will need to fast for days afterwards because you enjoyed it so much!
A huge thank you to the sponsors of the prizes:
Nigel Rich: trophy and Rose
Hail & Cotton for some shirts and a cap
TOR Importers for some of their famous cigars
BAT for their branded lighters
Paul Taberer for a Livery Company hip flask, bottle and print of Tandridge
Freeman Shem Baldeosingh for the Ferrari bag and Shirt
Hopefully more golfers will be inspired to participate next year and enjoy the company of members and guests!
