Mistress Event

1st June 2023

The Chelsea Physic Garden

The Mistress loves nature and plants – and thus choosing The Chelsea Physic Garden for her event was appropriate.
40 attendees, including 7 Consorts from other Companies, had an hour’s conducted tour by 3 dedicated and passionate volunteer guides – on a lovely spring day!
The Garden is 350 years old and was established in 1673 by the Worshipful Co of Apothecaries to grow plants to be used as medicines! Its rock garden is the oldest in Europe, grade II listed and devoted to Alpine and Mediterranean plants. The largest fruiting olive tree in Britain is there!
Set in just 3.6 acres, the gardens boast a great variety of some 5,000 plants in various sections – medicinal, pharmaceutical, useful etc! Well worth a visit.
We then enjoyed a lovely tea with cake and savoury platters and prosecco – and departed with a tobacco plant carefully nurtured by the Mistress from seedling over the past 3 months! Perhaps we can roll our own in another 3 month’s time?
A beautiful and interesting afternoon.
