Mercers' Company - Ruby Turner Livery Concert

17th May 2023

Mercers' Hall

Just when we thought we’d done and seen it all, we received an invitation from Master Mercer, Adam Fenwick, and Wardens to a Livery Concert in their Hall. What was not revealed was what the concert was and who was performing.

The Mistress and I were amongst 82 Livery Companies for this spectacle of an evening – and following a drinks reception were ushered into their Livery Hall and treated to an hour’s concert by Ruby Turner and her team…beyond the wildest of dreams!

Ruby is one of the UK’s finest soul, jazz and R&B singers, having performed at many famous top venues – a previous winner of the US R&B Chart and with 8 singles appearing in the UK Singles Chart! She also sang the National Anthem for HRH QE II at the opening of London’s Millennium Dome and performed at the Diamond Jubilee…and received an MBE in 2016.

She’s truly the genuine article with a voice that can breathe life and meaning into any song.

Following the performance we dined in the Court Dining Room – where there were 18 tables to accommodate us all – we being seated with the Spectacle Makers and Arbitrators.

I had the good fortune to meet the Master Nurse, Liz Bardolph, recently installed – and congratulated her on the nurses becoming no 111 Livery Company – granted just last week.

A wonderful evening hosted by The Mercers’ Company – precedence no 1 and Dick Whittington’s mother Company having been their Master 3 times!
