A Visit to the BOBATH Cerebral Palsy Centre
27th April 2023Charity Visit
The Benevolent Fund has been supporting the Bobath Cerebral Palsy Centre since 2015 and today we paid a visit to their centre in Watford.
Jon Fell (Chairman BF), Susan Curran (Trustee BF), Master Elect Elise, Sharon and I met with members of the very dedicated Bobath team including Madelaine Cassidy (CEO), Yolly Broek (Clinical Lead and Speech Therapist – been at Bobath 27 years!) and Nicky West (Snr Fundraising Manager).
I had no idea that CP is the most common of childhood disabilities and that 30,000 are living with the syndrome in UK.
Bobath focus on early intervention – identifying CP in kids as early as possible – this is vital if subsequent therapy is to have the greatest positive effect.
It was particularly moving to watch part of a 45-minute Early Intervention therapy session for a 2 ½ year girl, whose delightful mother then joined our discussion and shared her very positive experiences of the Bobath therapy…and how this has made a huge impact on her child and also on her and her husband.
Here is another amazing charity supported by the BF and where our contribution makes a very positive impact – in fact it funds the treatment for 9 babies a year.
A moving day, and thanks to the Bobath team for their warm welcome, education, passion and commitment!
