Guildhall School of Music & Drama

20th April 2023

Livery Companies Reception

Senior Warden Elect Henry Tuck, the Clerk, Carolyn Tuck, the Mistress and I joined several other Livery company representatives at a reception hosted by the GSM&D in the ‘Livery Companies Bar’ at the school.

The subject was to thank Companies for their much-needed support, highlight the success and global recognition the school has in the arts, and to emphasize the need for ongoing fund raising as they approach their 150th anniversary in 2030. It was good to meet and chat to students during the evening and to hear from the jazz quartet performing in the background.

Through our Benevolent Fund, we are one of 90 Livery Companies that provide financial support.

We heard from their campaign group member Sir Andrew Parmley, Sir Alan Yarrow (Lord Mayor 2014-15) and Prof Jonathan Vaughn (Principal of the School).

Our relationship with them started in 1964 – it is gratifying to hear that they are ranked the 6th best in the world at what they teach – Sir Andrew challenged them to keep progressing up the ladder! There are many benefits to a thriving Arts world!
