Worshipful Company of Engineers - Lecture

18th April 2023

Stationers' Hall

Master Engineers, Audrey Canning, extended an invitation to several Masters to attend a fascinating talk by Captain Ian Park – Royal Navy, barrister, currently serving in the UK Ministry of Defence – and holder of many other achievements.

It was thought provoking – there are currently 27 international armed conflicts (of which only 1 is diminishing); China continues to be a global threat and is mounting huge military infrastructure; Russia-Ukraine is now at day 442 and showing no signs of concession from either side; violent extremist organisations have recreated platforms; climate change brings challenges to the Arctic...the world is facing profound geopolitical challenges!

In addressing all these issues let us learn from past mistakes and assess what impact this may have on the UK and how the armed forces might mitigate this threat. Not easy!

Mesmerising – and we all needed a stiff drink after this talk that clearly pin-pointed multi and complex global matters.

Well done to The Master Engineer for pulling this off – as she enters her last week in the chair!
