Worshipful Company of Painter-Stainers Court and Livery Dinner

28th March 2023

Painters' Hall

The Clerk and I, along with 10 other Masters, attended the Painter-Stainers Court and Livery Dinner at the invitation of their Master, James Clover. It was my first visit to the Hall – though, I learnt, a regular venue for our meetings and dinners in the past – and a beautiful venue with the splendidly proportioned Hall containing a fine collection of Royal Portraits and historical paintings dating from the late 17th century and magnificent stained-glass windows showing the arms of the Liverymen who have been Lord Mayors of the City of London and others who have played a prominent part in the Company's history!

Special guests included David White, Garter Principal King of Arms, and Lord Kirkhope, Baron Kirkhope of Harrogate, a British lawyer and politician who previously served as Member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire and the Humber for the Conservative Party and who is a Liveryman Plumber – and who delivered the response with some light-hearted amusement stating the existence of 132 colours for painters to choose from!

6 new Liverymen had been gowned at their earlier Court meeting.

Edward Dye performed superbly on the piano - a freelance professional musician who has toured widely around the globe.

Another most enjoyable evening amongst very friendly Painter-Stainers!
