Garden Launch for the Lord Mayor's Big Curry Lunch
Tuesday 14th February 2023
Guildhall Yard
In the presence of HRH The Duke of Kent, The Lord Mayor, Sheriff Andrew Marsden, their Consorts, Masters, Clerks and various others, we were welcomed by Michael Hockney (co-Chair for the L M Big Curry Lunch) for the launch of the Commemorative Garden – a themed garden built by the Gardeners’ Company, as per tradition, and with help this year from the Guild of Young Freemen.
The Garden will be on display to the public until the eve of The Big Curry Lunch 30 March. If you’re in the area do try and view it – cleverly designed by expert Gianna Utilini.
The garden theme is Loss (a bench and fallen tree trunks), Unity (birch trees connected by underground roots), Hope (therapeutic value of walking a garden) - all relevant to the Armed Forces...proceeds from the forthcoming Lunch are for the much-needed benefit of HM Armed Forces.
The Lord Mayor has set a fundraising target of £325,000 – and reminded us that this was below inflation (last year £314k raised) and therefore achievable!
Our Benevolent Fund donates annually – a wonderful cause.
It was fittingly appropriate that the winter's sun was shining on the Garden - a glorious day.
