Irish Guards Assoc Dinner

Saturday 26th November 2022

Union Jack Club

The Mistress and I were invited to The Irish Guards Association annual dinner, this year held at the Union Jack Club in Waterloo. We enjoy an affiliation with them – established, in large, through the efforts of the late Alan Beggs, at the time their Hon Secretary and our Clerk’s Assistant. Alan was fondly remembered during the evening toasts.

We had the honour of being seated amongst the high ranks at the top table. An Irish piper processed us in!

Major General Christopher Ghika (M G commanding the Household Division) gave the keynote speech. He played a large part in the Jubilee celebrations and Her Late Majesty The Queen’s funeral arrangements. His speech touched on the armed forces modernizing their weaponry (drones etc) and the need for Russia to fail in Ukraine.

The Commanding Officer of The Irish Guards, Lt Col James Aldridge, also spoke, focusing on the many achievements of the IG this year – both in action and ceremonially.

There was no doubt as to the high morale in the room and their proud affiliation to the Irish Guards.

Our thanks to the Honorary Secretary Ron Kirkland for graciously hosting us and organising the evening.
