Service of Thanksgiving of the Lord Mayor – St Stephen Walbrook
8th November 2021St Stephen Walbrook is one of the City’s hidden gems – I am sure that I would have walked past it hundreds of times, but have never stepped inside. It is a beautiful church, designed by Christopher Wren, with a monumental altar by Henry Moore; it was also the birthplace of the Samaritans, started in 1953 by the then rector, Chad Varah. It is the Lord Mayor’s parish church and one of the final events of his term in office was a service of thanksgiving for all that he, and the Lady Mayoress, have done over the last two years. The service was followed by a drinks reception, which rounded off the evening.
