Dining out the Master

Monday 21st May 2018

Le Caprice, St James's

It's been a long time since I dined at Le Caprice: just a stone's throw from William Kent House (a property that was once part of the BAT Industries' empire). Master-elect Roger Brookes chose the venue and it was a perfect choice. Dining out the Master is an annual dinner for the about-to-be-retired Master and Mistress paid for by the Wardens. It's always a good event and this year is obviously Maureen's and my last. Sad in many ways but the silver lining is the fact that we did not have to pay!

We had an opportunity talk about our year and pass on some advice and tips to the future Masters and Mistresses. What struck me was how fortunate the Tobacco Pipe Makers are in having a future succession of excellent Masters and delightful Mistresses. The cuisine was outstanding and Roger selected some good wines, including Perrier Jouet which set the tone for the evening. Thank you Wardens for seeing us out in style.
