The Two prizes awarded to the Tobacco Industry are an integral part of the
Company year and represent the Pipe Makers commitment to encouraging "
best practice" in the trade in accordance with the concepts of Livery
life.
The Retailer of the Year
The Retailer of the Year Award - is presented annually
to a retailer making a special contribution to the trade.
The 2009 winner was Kris Parry, 'The Black Swan Shoppe', Scarborough.
The 2008 winner was Simon Jackson, 'My smoking Shop', Preston
No award for 2007
The 2006 winner was Jeremy Cole, 'G Smith and Sons', Charing Cross Road,
runners up were E Burkitt Ltd of Hove.
The 2005 winner was John Hollingsworth & Son Ltd, Solihull, runners up were Smokers Choice, Blackpool.
The Pipeman of the year 2003 was awarded to Past Master Richard Dunhill and
for 2004 Stephen Fry.
The Frederick Tranter Trophy
The Frederick Tranter Trophy is presented on a bi-annual basis and is specifically
awarded for excellence in craft work within the industry.
The 2004 winner was Colin Fromm for his handmade Charatan Brand pipe. He has
worked for over 25 years in the pipe trade.
The 2002 winner was a magnificent humidor made by Paul Ross of Piers Hart
and Co. see pictured below. Also in recognition of the high standard of entries
that year a special award was presented by the Master to Michael Billington
of Blakemar Briars for a superb hand-cut straight-grain briar.
Entries for the 2002 contest was widened to include all British craft work
allied to the
tobacco trade.
