The story of the link between the Company and Sevenoaks begins in the 1950's
when a relationship with the school was being sought in accordance with the
traditions of Livery Companies. Since 1960 regular contact has been maintained
by the Trustees of the Benevolent Fund and in particular Fiona Adler, who serves on the Board of Governors of Sevenoaks
School.
The Master and Wardens visit once a year - usually in October - to interview
scholars. Today there can be up to twenty Pipe Maker Scholars at the school
at any one time. Two scholarships are awarded annually to entrants at 13,
and a further two at 16 as they enter the sixth form.
Further funding has been given for the Library, also music and musical instruments
linking in with the tradition of the Alan Adler concerts which are an annual
event. Tommy Cookson, (recent past Headmaster) -"The support given by
the Pipe Makers Company is of incalculable importance and has made an enormous
difference to the school". The Head of Sevenoaks is Catherine Ricks.
